Child/Family Portrait Discounts for the Holidays!!

Hello all of you Moms and Dads,
I am running a huge 25% discount on all family sittings from Black friday(Nov. 25) until New Years Eve!
As you can see below sittings traditionally run $150 but for the next month it will be $110!!

I am happy to shoot either in studio or in a location of your choosing!! See below for all that is included.

I believe that child photography has changed drastically.

To truly capture that which

makes a child unique - his or her character - you often need

to relinquish control. From my perspective, photographing a child is

more a documentation of a child’s personal exploration and pursuit of new experiences.

I avoid the use of posed shots and prefer to capture

the natural progression of their behavior. Each session is structured but is also

filled with improvisation and adaptation.

I like to let the child lead the way, which enables me to capture

the unique natural expressions of joy, curiosity, and focus that really represent who the

child is as a person.

Included:

1 to 1 1/2 hours of shoot time

at the studio or your home

As many outfit changes as you like

Hosting of your online portfolio for 1 full year so that you or anyone

that you wish may order prints or digital files.

Note: Prints and digital files are not included in the sitting fee.

Self Portrait

Hey guys,
I just wanted to share a self portrait project that I had worked on earlier this year. I set out to do something a little different and here's how it came to be. I was thinking of what about me am I self conscience of. When I have my picture taken, what do I try to hide? This led me to this... I decided to photograph the physical things that I don't like to show. Very therapeutic, I know. Now I'm going one step further and sharing them.

Energy

Capturing energy in a shot is important to me. It's not always high level, because low energy can set a somber tone to a photo as well. I just think that energy level is up there with other important aspects of a photo. It can also be a broad term in describing the overall feel to a shot.... like "the setting sun adds a warm energy to the landscape shot..." I had a particular shoot last week that involved a lot of energy from a very literal sense. Working with my great friend Oscar to capture his incredible personality and his movement as a professional Zumba dancer all in a few shots. I was exhausted just trying to keep up with him! Water project

Just thought I'd share a few shots from an ongoing project I'm working on. Its a really simple concept revolving around water. Over the next few weeks you will see a few more interpretations of it. This particular session with my good friend Kim addresses movement in water. Enjoy!! Challenges

I had the opportunity to go and see Breaking Laces the other night for an intimate set to mark the release of their new CD(you need to check them out by the way). I've known these guys for a long time but never had the opportunity to shoot them. I was excited to do it. I'm a big fan of stage lighting during a show and went into this one with the mindset that I would only utilize the ambient light. It was a VERY small venue so I kept my gear to a minimum (two lenses and a monopod) and stood in the back of the house so as to be as unobtrusive to both the artists and the people who came out to support them. The place was jammed so movement for me was pretty much out of the question and one look at the stage made me question my decision to shoot ambient only. It was a dark stage... I mean really dark. This was gonna be challenging... but I love a challenge so here you go. Enjoy!!

The Annual Keshet Fundraiser

Every year I have the pleasure of being the photographer for this illustrious event that generates funds for the prestigious Keshet Eilon School of Music and I just wanted to share a few shots with you. Truly an amazing school and wonderful supporters that make shooting this event so enjoyable. This year it was hosted in the beautiful Harmonie Club on the East Side.

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to share a few of my favorite shots from a beautiful baby shower that I shot the other day. It was a truly wonderful time and once again congratulations to the parents to be John and DJ!! This was held in the amazing Restaurant 42 in the Ritz Carlton of White Plains and an amazing space with great light! I had a ball!! Enjoy!

She was obsessed with my camera so naturally I became obsessed taking shots with her.

Travels!!

Hello everyone! Well I am officially back from the other side of the earth and am eager to share a few shots I took while overseas! As many of you may know I started things in Israel and finished in Holland and still suffering from jet lag. It was a bit of a whirlwind trip with many event to attend and not enough time but I still enjoyed the heck out of it!! There will be several shots making there way to my website and printing gallery as well so be sure to check it often. Enjoy!!

Camel rides anyone?

The children were mesmerized by the camels.

Everyone owns a bicycle in Amsterdam.

I mean EVERYONE...

In the middle of the city there were 40 story ferris wheels and carousels that gave you a bird's eye view of the city! Amazing.

The cafe's are beautiful little family run shops that have been passed down from generations.

I became obsessed with these antique coffee grinders

I could spend weeks shooting the amazing faces in this city.

The sculptures within the cathedrals is incredible.

Congratulations Steven! I must admit this was a close competition but Steven took it by taking a simple idea and really thinking outside the box with it. I found it clever, funny and also a strong representation of who he is.
I want to thank everyone who entered and reaffirm that it was very difficult to decide and I was truly impressed with the shots that I saw. In particular here are some honorable mentions.

I really enjoyed this and will be hosting another new competition soon with great givaways!! Keep shooting guys!!

Ok guys I have a contest for you. I really find it interesting how people perceive themselves and it's never more evident than a self portrait. So here's the deal. I want you to send me your best self portrait. This contest is open to anyone so spread the word. The winner will be announced on march 31 and posted on my blog with the winning shot. Winners will receive a free one hour photo session at my studio and a Tshirt with the winning shot printed on it in the size you choose!

I understand that not all of us are professionals in this field so I'm giving top priority to creativity over technique and equipment used. That doesn't mean you pros shouldn't enter though. Consider it an equal opportunity contest. I'm really looking forward to this so get shooting!!

Certain rules apply:

*One submission per person. Pick your best to submit. I won't consider multiple shots.

*A self portrait is exactly that, a portrait of you. Don't submit shots of other people, friends, or your kids.

* The photo session is a gift certificate so if you don't live around the NYC area you can still give it to someone who can make the trip. Don't let that discourage you from entering.

* The camera cannot be in the photo. If you are using a mirror be sure to get creative.

* Do not have someone else take the shot of you. That is not a self portrait.

* You can use a timer if needed. Just be aware that if, for any reason, I perceive it to be shot by someone else I reserve the right to disqualify it from the running.

* I reserve the right to disqualify any submission for what I deem inappropriate or unacceptable for any reason.

* I can't stress enough that I'm looking for creativity above all else! Go nuts!

*All photos need to be sent to arkhamfan@gmail.com no later than march 25th accompanied by an email address and "Self portrait" in the subject heading.

New Year and A New Project!!

Hey y'all I've been kicking around a few ideas/concepts and have decided on going back to the basics for my next big project. This project is going to take a step back into a much more deliberate and specific way of shooting... and it will not be digital. This will be a big endeavor and there will be a showing!! More details to come soon. If you are interested in taking part and donating your time let me know and follow my blog for further information. I haven't been more excited about a project in a while so be part of something unique.
